a heart on the fourteenth

~ 1cup soft butter, 1 1/3 cups raw cane sugar, a glug of molasses, a splash of haitian vanilla and 2 eggs all placed in kitchen aid stand mixer with whisk looking attachment - mix on medium
~ next, add 2 cups of unbleached flour, 1/3 cup wheat flour, a pinch and then another of sea salt, 1 tsp baking soda, a little ground flax and wheat germ and maybe a few oats, a little cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg or cloves or my favorite "mixed baking spices" made by tropical heat
~ mix on low to start then gradually move to medium speed. unless you like the big puff! that happens when you head straight for high speed, which, i agree is fun some days. if you like that, skip low and medium and smile.
~ finally, remove bowl from mixer and mix in dark chocolate chips. eat some dough and give a spoon to others near. after that's been enjoyed, then spoon onto cookie sheets and bake at 370 until the middle is still squishy and the edges golden.
~ not much fun to make when sugar and dairy are not part of your current diet

i'm taking a different look at play today, because i am feeling rather unplayful. too many tasks to accomplish before the day ends. the usual playfulness i have inside has been overtaken by details and schedules, budgets and lousy attempts at spreadsheets. so i'm looking forward to the playful days ahead and with anticipation of those days, i am off to plan.

i moved the couch to the where the sun was shining through the window, landing perfectly in the spot where i would lay. i grabbed a blanket and a book, propped my feet on one end, the broken end, and my head on a pillow at the other end.
there, that's where i rested.
------
ps 34
for nearly two hours i moved the couch around my living room, requiring me to also move the dining table and chairs and a rug, so i could stay in the sunshine. i kinda feel like a kitty today. i just don't have the tail, but am working on the purr.

my body chilled to the bone after a windy and flury-filled run, but my heart was quickly warmed when I spotted a bald eagle resting in an old oak tree. then it took flight in the sky right above me.

strong and graceful and beautiful.
a gift?
yes.
after it disappeared in the distance, i headed to the side of the fire i'd made earlier to warm my body.

no spandex or running shoes aloud dinner party

we wake early, run in below freezing temperatures, rain, sunshine and watch the sunrise many mornings together. we run on roads and trails and in races. we encourage each other and become better as individuals because of that.
we are friends.
tomorrow i will host them in my home for a dinner party. masala potato soup, crusty whole grain bread and butter, apple slices, walnuts, honey and four kids of cheese, wine and s.pellegrino. finishing the meal with two dark chocolate desserts*, one salty and the other minty, washed down with roasted a few days ago, coffee from rwanda.

here's the first 365:self:rmcn dinner invitation extended ~ if you are a regular wear-er of spandex and running shoes come join us. i, we, would love to have you.

*today is dessert making for tomorrow...how can you go wrong with the ingredients pictured? you can't.

Lord has said to her will be accomplished!" ~luke 1:45

saturday: being toasted and loved, running and dancing, loving back
sunday: flowers in a vase on the windowsill given by little hands

tuesday: supportive running partners, who have become friends
wednesday: a day spend with teak, creating with our hands gifts to give and sharing a delicious meal and midday toast.
